‘Moving Spaces’ by Te-Mao Lee and Luca Favaro . . Artists Te-Mao Lee (‘73) and Luca Favaro (‘93) have been participating in the ARE artist-in-residence program at ARE since early June 2024. Opening 14.08.2024 20:00 – 22:00 Periode: 14.08 t/m 25.08.2024 Location: B93, Hoge Bothofstraat 166, Enschede (NL) During their residency, Te-Mao and Luca engaged with their surroundings, each responding to their environment in Enschede from their own discipline and experiences. Moving Spaces presents a surprising and perceptive take on space. Te-Mao Lee - Bursting Balloons bring a festive party atmosphere; however, in this exhibition the audience may feel a bit anxious as they pass by the balloons. The balloons gradually expand and might burst at any moment. Through the balloons, Te-Mao explores two observations during his residency: one regarding the stable civil society where each person possesses a relatively independent sense of identity and internalized self-discipline. The other concerns the nearby German border, examining the visibility and invisibility of physical space and online maps using Google Street View. Luca Favaro - Leave a Trace (Ecosystem_03) Leave a Trace speaks of space and memory. This interactive installation creates, using speakers and microphones, an invisible area that incorporates its surroundings and uses them in an ongoing musical composition. Through recordings, playbacks and variations, everyone and everything that passes through the soundscape will have an influence on its outcome. The software behind the artwork works with three different types of memory (short, medium, and long term) to remember and pass on what happens inside the installation’s space, creating an environment that fosters exchange and exploration. De stichting heeft ten doel:
a. het creëren en het ter beschikking stellen van werkruimte aan beeldende kunstenaars in de gemeente Enschede;
b. een beleid te voeren, waardoor tegen een betaalbare prijs voor lange tijd ateliers ter beschikking komen;
c. contacten leggen met kunstenaars uit binnen- en buitenland om tot een culturele uitwisseling te komen;
d. de mogelijkheden van kunstenaars te vergroten om zich te manifesteren op een breder terrein;
e. het steunen van kunstenaars bij het uitoefenen van hun werk.
Het Carte Blanche project behelst 10 tentoonstellingen per jaar. Iedere tweede woensdagavond van de maand (met uitzondering van juli en augustus) wordt er om 20:00 een expositie geopend.
B93 biedt de ruimte, organiseert de opening en promoot de tentoonstellingen door middel van het versturen van persberichten en uitnodigingen. De tentoonstelling zelf wordt ingericht door de kunstenaar. B93 geeft de exposant carte blanche en bemoeit zich nergens mee, zolang de hal maar weer wit en leeg wordt opgeleverd.
Artist Residencies Enschede (ARE) is gevestigd in het pand van kunstenaarsinitiatief B93. ARE huurt hier twee ateliers met woonruimte. De twee ateliers worden beschikbaar gesteld voor internationale gastkunstenaars die tijdelijk in Enschede willen verblijven.
De internationale gastkunstenaars krijgen de mogelijkheid om nieuw werk te creëren, zich volledig te concentreren op hun ontwikkeling en om hun netwerk uit te breiden. De kunstenaars verblijven maximaal drie maanden in deze ateliers en sluiten de artist-in-residence periode af met een tentoonstelling. ARE benadrukt het belang van betekenisvolle en gelaagde culturele uitwisseling en onderdompeling in een andere cultuur.’
Het pand biedt ruimte aan 10 ateliers. Momenteel zijn de volgende kunstenaars actief binnen B93. Zij huren een ruimte of zijn extern verbonden aan de stichting.
